Nurnberg vs Frankfurt Predictions
Eintracht Frankfurt will be feeling a little disheartened that they are coming into this second leg level on aggregate after the dominant performance they put on on Thursday. They missed a host of clear opportunities and only conceded due to an own goal from captain Marco Russ, who recently discovered he has a tumour and proceeded to get booked and subsequently suspended to round off an awful few days for the defender. Two penalty appeals were dismissed for Frankfurt and the only thing which could have made the day any more unfortunate was if they didn’t find an equaliser. Fortunately for them they did, but now they have to do the job away from home.
It’s generally been a disappointing week or so for everybody involved with Frankfurt. They lost their final Bundesliga match of the season to Werder Bremen, which saw them miss out on safety by a single point after a fairly promising run towards the end of the campaign. They have won three, lost one, and drawn one of their last five matches.
Nurnberg stumbled a bit towards the end of their 2. Bundesliga season. They lost three of their last six, winning the other three and missing out on automatic promotion by two points.
This should be a very close tie on Monday. Nurnberg managed to hold on in the first leg but they will be hoping to gain more of a foothold during their home clash, whereas Frankfurt will be quietly confident after such a dominant performance at home.
Nurnberg have won six of their last eight home matches so it won’t be easy for the visitors, but they can find some solace in the fact that Nurnberg have conceded in all but one of these home games. Frankfurt have been poor on the road this season but regained a bit of confidence with a 2-1 win at Darmstadt recently.
I think Nurnberg’s poor clean sheets record at home, combined with the promise of top flight football next season with a win, will mean that Frankfurt should be able to get on the scoresheet. Nurnberg have only failed to score in one of their last 13 home games though, so odds of 4/5 for Both Teams to Score look promising. I’m backing a 2-1 win for Nurnberg as well at 17/2.
