Port Vale v Northampton – not the easiest fixture to call. Both of these teams have been somewhat up and down and it’s hard to know what to expect from either. Having said this, in front of their home fans, Port Vale have been at their best more often than not, while Northampton have struggled a bit on their travels. However, avoiding backing either side seems to be the best way to go here.

At odds of 4/5 ‘Both Teams to Score’ is the bet to go for. While they may not have been in great overall form this season, both teams have shown their capable of scoring goals, while showing a clear tendency to concede with regularity.

Both teams have scored in seven of Port Vale’s ten at home, while the exact same can be said for Northampton when they’re playing on the road. In addition, Northampton have kept just one clean sheet on their travels, while Port Vale have only managed to shut their opposition out in two of their ten matches at Vale Park.

The visitors might not have scored in their last away match, but playing Port Vale – a side who favour attacking at home – should allow them space on the counter and thus they should have plenty of goal-scoring opportunities here.

On recent form, Port Vale are probably the likeliest winner here, although it is fancied that both should have enough about them to find the net and thus ‘Both Teams to Score’ gets the nod.

An additional side bet here is ‘Alex Jones to Score Anytime’ at 15/8. The Port Vale striker has been in good form this season, scoring nine goals in the league and he also returned to the score-sheet with a smart finish against Hartlepool in last weekend’s FA Cup match. Against a Northampton side who’ve struggled defensively of late, Jones should find himself with chances in this match and it would be no surprise if he took at least one of them.
