      Under 2.5 Match Goals

      Reason for tip

Under 2.5 goals looks the best bet when Portsmouth face Charlton. Neither side has shown much attacking quality this season and recent form points firmly towards a tight contest. Portsmouth’s last five league games have mostly been low scoring, while Charlton’s matches regularly fail to open up. With both sides struggling for goals, chances should be limited.

      Charlton 1-0

      Reason for tip

Charlton can nick this by the odd goal, with a 1-0 away win appealing in the correct-score market. Five of Charlton’s seven Championship victories this season have come by a single-goal margin, and Portsmouth have scored just 19 goals in 22 matches. If one side finds a way through, it is more likely to be the visitors.

      Portsmouth vs Charlton Predictions

Low-scoring clash expected at Fratton Park

There is unlikely to be a goal-fest when Portsmouth take on Charlton at Fratton Park on Monday, with under 2.5 goals the best bet. There have been fewer than three goals in four of Portsmouth’s last five Championship games and in 14 of Charlton’s 22 outings this season.

Charlton are 17th in the Championship, five places above Portsmouth, but both teams have lost more games than they’ve won this season. The visitors have seven wins and nine defeats, while the hosts have won five and lost ten.

Portsmouth have won just one of their last six Championship matches and while Charlton have failed to win eight of their last nine away games, they have played out two straight stalemates in the league.

Portsmouth’s 1-1 draw with QPR on Friday kept up their recent trend for matches with under 2.5 goals. Portsmouth dominated the game with 66.5% possession, but could only manage a share of the points. They were available at odds of 19/10 before the game.

Both teams have struggled to find the back of the net this season. Portsmouth have scored just 19 goals in 22 Championship games, while Charlton have managed 21 goals in the same number of matches.

Four of Portsmouth’s last six home games in the Championship have gone under 2.5 goals, and Charlton’s last three have had fewer than three goals.

Charlton’s last three games in the Championship have all gone under, and with five of their seven victories this season coming by a one-goal margin, a 1-0 away win looks a decent correct-score bet.
