Portugal vs Wales Predictions
- Portugal are the Nations League champions
- Wales have scored in their last seven games
- Portugal have conceded in five of their last seven
Back both teams to score in Lisbon
Wales won promotion during the last Nations League cycle and they open their account in League A with a trip to defending champions Portugal.
Portugal are the clear favourites to win and they should be able to see off Craig Bellamy’s visitors – but the best angle here looks to be the odds-against price on both teams scoring.
Wales are on a seven-game scoring streak across all games and they’ve scored in their last 10 competitive outings.
Portugal have a new manager in place in Jorge Jesus after their last 16 exit at the World Cup, where they went down to eventual winners Spain. As such the hosts are a bit of an unknown quantity but they have conceded in five of their last seven games. Portugal also conceded in home World Cup qualifiers against the likes of Hungary and Armenia so Wales should be able to strike.
Jesus has resisted any calls to move on from Cristiano Ronaldo and the veteran is in line to add to his 233 appearances for his country. The former Real Madrid man struggled at the World Cup but he did score three goals and can add to his record 146-goal international haul against Wales.
The Dragons can keep things respectable and a 2-1 win for Portugal is the correct score pick. Portugal have only scored more than twice in one of their last nine games, a 5-0 World Cup drubbing of Uzbekistan, and Wales have only conceded more than twice in three of their last 20 games.
