Tip Reasoning

  • Both teams have scored in each of Bristol City’s last seven Championship games.
  • Preston have seen both teams find the net in eight of their last 11 games.
  • Bristol City have the third-worst defensive record in the division, shipping a massive 49 goals in just 28 games.

Robins entertaining for neutrals, frustrating for Pearson

Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson has highlighted the need for defensive reinforcements at Ashton Gate, with the Robins having conceded a huge tally of 49 goals in just 28 Championship outings. Pearson’s side have posted just three clean sheets all season, all of which came at home, and have conceded two or more goals in each of their last seven outings.

Bristol City have also gone seven away games without winning, and will face another tough test when they travel to Deepdale to meet Preston, who impressively beat West Bromwich Albion in midweek. Preston had gone five games without a win themselves prior to their success at the Hawthorns, where they earned their first clean sheet since October.

Preston have seen both teams find the net in eight of their last 11 games, and in each of their last five at Deepdale. Their record of 33 goals conceded in the league this season, while nowhere near as bad as that of their visitors, is worse than all bar six teams in the English second tier.

Goals expected at Deepdale

With a leaky Bristol City outfit seeing both teams score in seven consecutive Championship games, both teams to find the net looks a very strong play at Deepdale.

Further value can be acquired, however, by adding over 2.5 goals to be scored into the mix. Three or more goals have been scored in all of Bristol City’s last seven games, and in nine of the last 13 to feature Preston.

Given Bristol City’s dreadful defensive record and poor away form, meanwhile, backing the hosts for a 2-1 success could be a decent correct score prediction.
