Reason For Preston vs Cardiff Predictions

  • Both teams have won just one of their first four Championship fixtures.
  • Both sides have also failed to score in two of their four outings so far.
  • The teams played out a 0-0 draw in their penultimate meeting in Wales last term.

Sunday’s Championship fix comes from Deepdale and it should be a fascinating tussle between two sides who have both made under par starts to the new campaign.

Preston signed off for the international break in style thanks to a superb 2-4 comeback win at Brentford, but that marked only their first success of the season following an away draw at Norwich (2-2) and home defeats to Stoke (0-1) and Brighton (0-2).

After a ninth placed finish last term, boss Alex Neil would have hoped for much more with a Play-Off place the likely aim this time around, but at least The Lilywhites head into this clash on a high after knocking over one of the promotion favourites.

Similarly, Cardiff boss Neil Harris would’ve been looking for his side to make a fast start to put their Play-Off Semi-Final disappointment behind them, but the Bluebirds have thus far fallen short of the levels they set in 2019/20.

Like Preston, Cardiff sit below mid-table on four points, all of which have been gained on the road via a 0-2 win at Nottingham Forest and a 0-0 stalemate at Blackburn last time out.

And we envisage a similar outcome here to that posted by the visitors at Ewood Park a fortnight ago, with both teams likely to prioritise not suffering a third defeat from five. While City ran out 1-3 winners post-lockdown in last term’s corresponding fixture, the penultimate meeting between the teams finished goalless and that’s our prediction this weekend.

Both sides have failed to register in half of their matches so far, and that further boosts our fancy for the draw and a 0-0 score-line.
