Preston vs Sheffield United Predictions
- Preston have drawn three of their last seven games
- Five of Sheffield United’s last seven Championship road games have had fewer than three goals
- Preston have only lost once at home this term
Blades recovering
The long road to redemption for Sheffield United finally seems to be starting after what was a disastrous start to the season for the Blades.
Ruben Selles was sacked after the team lost their first seven games of the campaign in all competitions, with former manager Chris Wilder being reinstated.
Since then they have turned things around with three wins from six, including two on the bounce against Watford and Blackburn.
The Blades finally scored more than one goal in their 12th attempt last time out as they beat Rovers 3-1.
Nevertheless they remain 21st in the second tier coming into Friday night’s clash with Preston, who have been a touch unlucky to lose two on the bounce.
The Lilywhites won the shot count and the expected goals battle in both of their defeats at the hands of West Brom and Birmingham respectively and will be hoping to bounce back from that disappointment after what has been a solid start to the season.
Stalemate fancied
Paul Heckingbottom’s side are tenth but remain just three points behind third-placed Millwall in an ultra-congested second tier.
After a poor campaign last season in which they stayed up narrowly, Preston are aiming for a play-off spot this time around and if they are to be successful in that endeavour, their home form will be crucial.
The 1-0 loss to Birmingham last time out was their first home league defeat of the campaign and they will be desperate not to make it two in a row.
Likewise Sheffield United cannot afford to slip back to losing ways after working so hard to get themselves out of their start of season slump.
As a result of the stakes in this game, a stalemate looks likely. Preston have drawn three of their last seven matches and will prove a tough test for a Sheffield United side who are still recovering from the shock of their poor start to the campaign.
This duo are fancied to put on a competitive affair under the lights on Friday night but it may eventually end in the points being shared at Deepdale, take the draw.
Goals have been an issue for both teams this season, they have only scored 19 between them in 22 games, so a low-scoring match looks like the likeliest outcome.
Five of Sheffield United’s last seven Championship road games have had fewer than three goals and this could be another, take a 1-1 draw for correct score purposes.
