      PSG vs Gazalec Ajaccio Predictions

It’s probably a little unfair for us to describe PSG’s opening night performance as only “workmanlike”. The defending champions had experienced some difficulties in breaking down a resilient Lille in the opening exchanges, before Adrien Rabiot was sent off in the 28th minute of the game.

PSG’s potential to dominate Ligue 1 was made pretty clear in those 60 minutes with 10-men. They enjoyed the better chances, the greater possession and their line-up was missing superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and newly-signed attacking midfielder Angel Di Maria. Those two players have the class to make the capital city favourites near unstoppable.

Still, while Ibrahimovic and Di Maria are still finding their fitness and feet in this Ligue 1 season, it’s advisable to be a little weary of betting on large handicaps or high-goal scoring games. PSG are a different sort of side without their two star men.

Newly-promoted Gazelec Ajaccio managed to draw their opening game back in the Ligue 1, but that contest was against Troyes, who were also promoted last season. There are many that expect Gazelec Ajaccio to struggle this season and it’s worth noting that even in Ligue 2 last season, they were hardly an explosive team in terms of attacking football.

This is a fantastic game for the visiting fans and if there is going to be a dramatic upset, then this is the right time to do it with a PSG that are not at full strength.

Still, our betting tips cannot go there. Ibrahimovic’s status for Sunday’s game is unknown, but with or without him, we expect Gazalec Ajaccio to be a little over-awed by the occasion and by PSG’s quality. Lille had a strong structure adapted over several seasons to be effective against the best attacks in Ligue 1, but PSG won’t have a man sent off in this game and they will have their home crowd behind them. We’ll go against our previous rule and predict a high-scoring game with PSG claiming a comfortable victory.
