Rangers vs Celtic Predictions
This should serve as a tasty reminder to every football fan in Scotland of what they have been missing recently. The Old Firm is back for the final time before Rangers return to the Scottish Premiership next season.
Rangers managed to seal the Scottish Championship title with a 1-0 win over Dumbarton at the start of April, and they followed this up with a Scottish Challenge Cup triumph on Sunday as they hammered Peterhead 4-0 to claim their 2nd trophy in under a week.
This takes their recent record to nine wins, one defeat, and one draw in their last 11 matches in all competitions, but an Old Firm clash at Hampden Park will undoubtedly be their biggest challenge of the season.
Celtic have endured a title challenge from Aberdeen that has lasted longer than normal this season. Numerous slip ups from the dominant Scottish side have kept the two sides close for a long time, but Celtic have finally started to pull away.
They are now eight points clear of the trailing Aberdeen after winning five of their last six and remaining undefeated since a loss at Aberdeen at the beginning of February.
But this is the Old Firm, and if history has taught us anything then it is that anything can happen in Scotland’s biggest rivalry. They may be a league apart, for now, but the gap between them isn’t as large as you would expect.
Both sides will be pushing hard for the win to try and claim another piece of silverware for the season, so I think there could be goals in this one. Rangers haven’t failed to score in any of their last 12 matches in all competitions, but their defence have slipped up a bit recently and conceded nine goals in their last five games.
Celtic have only failed to score twice in their last 24 outings, but they have only kept two clean sheets in their last five outings. This makes odds of 8/11 for Both Teams to Score look excellent value, but I’m backing Celtic to progress with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 15/2.
