Rangers vs Morton Predictions
After a fantastic period in the autumn the wheels seem to be coming off a bit for Rangers. They saw off 2016 with a 2-1 defeat at home to Celtic on New Year’s Eve, and since then they have won two, drawn one, and lost two of their last five matches.
The most recent of these games was a rather disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Ross County, and prior to that it was a midweek thrashing at the hands of the out of form Hearts, which ended 4-1.
This has seen them drop down to 3rd in the Scottish Premiership, trailing Aberdeen on goal difference and having played a game more than their opponents. Celtic are an absurd 27 points clear of them both though.
This will put a lot of focus on the Scottish FA Cup for them. They made it to the final last season only to be beaten by Hibernian, and they almost made an early exit in their first outing this season as they trailed Motherwell at home. A five minute double from Kenny Miller in the final six minutes saved their blushes though.
Greenock Morton saw off fellow Championship outfit Falkirk in their last outing in the Scottish FA Cup, and since then they have continued their impressive form. They have won six, drawn two, and lost just one of their last nine games in all competitions, leaving them 3rd in the Championship with a real chance of making it into the top flight.
Away from home they have won five, drawn two, and lost six of their last 13 matches though, and they’re facing a Rangers side who have only lost to Celtic at the Ibrox this season. They have drawn against Ross County twice, Hamilton, and St Johnstone though.
Rangers’ defence has been poor recently though. They have kept just three clean sheets in their last 13 matches in all competitions, and at home they have conceded in four of their last six. Greenock Morton have scored in ten of their last 11 away from home as well, so backing Both Teams to Score at 5/4 looks an excellent bet. I’m also going for a 2-1 correct score predictions at 8/1.
