      Reading vs Blackburn Predictions

The return of McDermott which had been muted ever since the dismissal of Steve Clarke, was confirmed this week and the man who led Reading to the Premier League in his last spell will certainly be welcomed back with open arms by the Reading fans.

He has quite a task to turn around his club’s current form though. They’ve lost their last 4 matches but put in a spirited display at the KC Stadium in midweek and were a little unfortunate to lose 2-1 courtesy of a last minute goal from the hosts.

This isn’t an easy start either against a Blackburn side that are going well under their new boss Paul Lambert and are unbeaten in 8 matches overall. Rovers are 1 point and 2 places better off than Reading and both sides will know that a good festive period could propel them into play-off contention.

It’s hard to see there being many goals in this match. There have been 2 or fewer goals in 8 of Blackburn’s last 10 matches and they come into this game on the back of 3 consecutive clean sheets but they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Nottingham Forest last time out.

Reading have only scored 4 times in their last 6 matches and 2 of their last 3 games have ended in 1-0 defeats. Therefore goals could well be few and far between here and backing there to be under 2.5 goals in the match at 8/13 might be a solid bet.

McDermott’s return should draw a response from the Reading fans and players alike but they might not have quite enough to see off a resilient Blackburn side and backing this to finish 1-1 at 5/1 could be the way to go.
