Reading vs Bristol City Betting Tips

Brian McDermott won his opening game back at Reading but has lost both festive fixtures with defeats coming at Wolves and last time out at home to Brentford. They are now 10 points off the play-off places and will need to start picking up wins soon if they are to stay in contention.

There was the odd pre-season suggestion that Bristol City could be surprise contenders for the top six but that has failed to materialise and safety remains their ultimate goal this season. The Robins haven’t won any of their last 4 matches and their last two away games both ended in 4-0 defeats at Burnley and Derby.

They are in the relegation zone as we speak but only because of a goal difference that is the joint worst in the league and they have conceded more goals than anybody in the division.

With a defensive record like theirs, goals are always likely in games involving Bristol City and there have been at least 2 goals in all of their last 8 fixtures. Reading are another side that score and concede more than their fair share and if their attacking players are at their best, they could put Bristol City to the sword here although away goals can’t be ruled out either.

Therefore backing there to be more than 2.5 goals in this game at 21/20 looks a good bet.

Reading haven’t been at their best for a while though so we are unlikely to see a massacre but they should get enough chances to win it and a 2-1 home win might be the way to go in the correct score market at 15/2.
