Draw 0-0

Reason for tip

Real Betis have had four 0-0 draws this season while Celta Vigo have had three. A tight contest is expected due to the fact that both teams can hardly afford to lose if they want to achieve their season’s goals.

‘Engineer’ Pellegrini eyeing Betis exit

Goals might be on short supply at Estadio Benito Villamarin on Friday night when slumping Real Betis host relegation-threatened Celta Vigo.

Most of the pre-match talk in Seville this week has been about the future of Manuel Pellegrini after the Real Betis boss was spotted in the crowd at the Rome derby and reportedly met up with Giallorossi officials after the game.

The club have denied there was any meeting, but recent results indicate a parting of the ways could happen sooner than anyone expected a few weeks ago. Los Verdiblancos have lost four consecutive games to sit seven points behind Real Sociedad, who occupy sixth place.

B team boss has given Celta a boost

They have been fairly unconvincing at home since the turn of the year with two wins, two defeats and two draws. That sort of form puts them in danger of slipping up to a Celta Vigo side on the rise, albeit from a very lowly position.

Os Celestes are undefeated under Claudio Giraldez, who stepped up from coaching the B team when Rafa Benitez was shown the door last month. They beat Sevilla 2-1 on their last visit to Andalusia a few weeks ago and followed that fine result up with a 0-0 home draw against hard-to-beat Rayo Vallecano.

This looks like being another tight contest as Betis cannot afford any more slip-ups and Celta Vigo are only three points clear of the bottom three with no room for error. Each side could have their own reasons for settling for a point and a draw would seem likely given the frequency of stalemates on both clubs’ recent records.
