Los Blancos can edge El Derbi Madrileno

Real Madrid host Atletico in the latest installment of the El Derbi Madrileño and this looks like a good opportunity for Los Blancos to claim an elusive league win over their city rivals.

Atleti won the reverse fixture 5-2 and are unbeaten in six La Liga meetings between these two sides, although Real have won in the Champions League and the Supercopa de Espana during that period.

However, Real are the team in the far better form as they seek to extend a four-game winning run. Atleti lost at Spurs on Wednesday, admittedly in a game where they just needed to avoid defeat by three goals, and their away form has been fairly poor all season with just four wins in 13 attempts in La Liga on their travels.

Los Colchoneros have three defeats in their last five trips in all competitions and Real have won nine of their last 10 at the Bernabeu.

Goals at both ends has been a regular fixture in Madrid derbies with both teams scoring in 12 of the last 13 head-to-head meetings, so a 2-1 Real win has a chance here.

Kylian Mbappe made a return from injury as a substitute against Man City in midweek and he is one option for an anytime goal, but Vinicius Junior could be a better pick. Vinicius scored both of Real’s goals at the Etihad and has seven strikes in his last nine games.
