Tip Reasoning

  • Rennes have won five of their last six Ligue 1 home games.
  • Nice have lost three of their last five Ligue 1 matches, only beating 18th-placed Clermont during that sequence.

Rennes ready and waiting for Nice

Rennes have not beaten Nice at Roazhon Park for six years, but that sequence could come to an end on Sunday when the in-form hosts meet an out-of-sorts Les Aiglons side.

Rennes have benefitted from a free week in the build-up to this after their Europa Conference League trip to Tottenham was called off, although they did make the trip to London.

However, Bruno Genesio’s side should be fully recovered from their exertions at Stade Geoffroy Guichard, where they thrashed Saint-Etienne 5-0 last weekend. That was the third Ligue 1 game in five where Les Rouge et Noir had  posted an xG of greater than three and a fifth straight where their opponents had been kept to below one.

Les Aiglons have regressed again

Our feeling is that they should probably be a bit shorter in the betting than a shade of odds on because Nice are not at their best right now. The visitors look strong on paper and have a champion coach, but their results are still too inconsistent.

It felt like Christophe Galtier’s side had turned a corner when Nice beat Lyon and Angers either side of a good draw with Marseille in November, but things have regressed recently. The manner of last weekend’s 3-0 loss at Strasbourg was worrying as Nice were never really in the game and Galtier continues to manage the workload of Youcef Atal as the attacking full-back returns from a lay-off.

Atal and Dante should return to Nice’s backline for this one, but Melvin Bard picked up an injury last weekend. More changes in defence will hardly improve the cohesion of a side that has kept just one clean sheet in their last ten games.

Rennes, on the other hand, have kept seven clean sheets in their last 11 league games, so we are forecasting a 2-0 home win in this one.
