Tip Reasoning

  • Fiorentina have won four of their last six games, with Wednesday’s 2-0 Coppa Italia reverse to Juventus their only defeat during that sequence.
  • La Viola hammered Salernitana 4-0 in December’s return fixture.
  • Vincenzo Italiano’s men are unbeaten in six league matches.
  • Only six of Salernitana’s 22 points this season have been picked up against current top-half Serie A teams.

Viola look to bounce back from Coppa exit

Despite dominating for large periods of Wednesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Juventus, Fiorentina saw their hopes of a first domestic cup win since 2001 dashed by goals from Federico Bernardeschi and Danilo. However, with Vincenzo Italiano’s men sitting in seventh place, just two points shy of fifth-placed Roma, they still have much to play for this campaign.

Fiorentina are unbeaten in six league matches, with that loss to Juventus representing their only defeat in six matches in all competitions. Italiano’s team have won four of those encounters, and with Roma and Juventus still to play this season, will be hopeful of snatching a spot in Europe. Fiorentina hammered Salernitana 4-0 in December’s reverse fixture, so a trip to the same opponents won’t hold much fear for the Viola, even if Davide Nicola’s team are improving.

After defeating Sampdoria and Udinese on their travels, Salernitana have recorded back-to-back wins for the first time all season, but with Nicola’s men still six points adrift of safety, their improvement is almost certainly too little, too late. Only six of the strugglers’ 22 points this term have been earned against teams currently in the top half, and their last home win came in October 2021.

Fiorentina can end hosts’ revival

Salernitana’s league position means they will have to attack in their final six games of the campaign, and a Fiorentina team with 53 goals in 32 league games should have enough firepower to pick off their hosts.

We’re backing the Viola to earn another much-needed win in their push for Europe, but it shouldn’t be as one-sided as December’s encounter. Both teams have scored in eight of Salernitana’s last 12 matches, so a 3-1 away win could be a decent correct score prediction.
