Salernitana vs Monza Predictions
- Salernitana have lost each of their last three games, failing to score a goal in that span.
- The hosts have lost eight of their last 10 matches, conceding 25 goals in that run.
- Monza, meanwhile, have only lost two of their last 10 games, against Juventus and Milan.
Salernitana on the slide
Paulo Sousa failed to provide an immediate impact upon his arrival at Salernitana, overseeing a 2-0 defeat against Lazio last time out – their third without scoring in as many games. The hosts are now just four points above Serie A’s dreaded dotted line and on a woeful run of form, and they need a response quickly. Unfortunately for Salernitana, their upcoming opponents Monza are one of Italy’s most in-form teams, and Raffaele Palladino’s men may get more joy on their journey south.
Salernitana have now lost eight of their last 10 games, conceding a huge 25 goals during that sequence. While last week’s meeting with Lazio represented a tough first assignment for Sousa, a performance in which his charges faced 19 shots, went down to 10 men and allowed their visitors over three expected goals could not have offered much hope. Having taken 16 points in their first 12 games of the campaign, they have earned just five from their last 11, and they appear to be the team most likely to slide into the bottom three at the expense of an improving Verona outfit.
While Monza suffered their first league defeat of 2023 last time out, they gave a good account of themselves in a 1-0 loss to Milan, and only the champions and Juventus have beaten them since the World Cup. On their travels, Palladino’s men have been exemplary of late, beating Cremonese, Juve and Bologna on their last three Serie A road trips, and more success could await them in Salerno.
Monza can bounce back
With Salernitana showing all the hallmarks of a team destined to slide into danger and Monza finding consistency after a host of new players took time to find their feet at the start of the season, backing the visitors looks to be prudent play for Sunday’s fixture.
Meanwhile, a 2-0 away win is our correct score prediction – Salernitana have lost four of their last five matches to nil and Monza have kept two clean sheets on the spin on their travels.
