Salford City vs Cambridge United Predictions
Although there appears not to be too much of a difference between National League and League Two football in a one off match, one of the biggest differences between the two divisions is the consistency displayed at the higher level. This weekends clash between Salford City and Cambridge United represents a match between two teams who have spent much of their recent history outside of the Football League and come into this match knowing that they need to be more consistent if they are to start climbing the table.
Salford City got back to winning ways last Saturday when they convincingly beat in-form Walsall with an excellent 3-0 win. With the signings in the summer transfer window looking like they were starting to settle in, it was a win which was much needed as the Ammies had gone into the match following three league defeats in four games. It’s not as if the defeats were exactly close either, as they were handed a 4-0 defeat to Forest Green and a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Crewe Alexandra.
Cambridge equalised 12 minutes from time to take a 2-2 draw at home to Macclesfield last weekend to make it two draws in a row and also ensured they come into this match without a win in their previous four matches in all competitions. Despite a strong start to the season, there is now cause for concern, as the visitors are struggling to get over the line and have started to drop down the league.
The hosts victory last time out will have been a welcome relief and should bring a renewed level of confidence in the squad. Given that their visitors will be lacking in confidence following their recent run, we think that the hosts should have the edge. However, Salford’s form is far from convincing, so adding the “Draw – No Bet” clause seems like the wisest move to make.
In terms of the correct score tip, although we expect a close match, we feel that the hosts ability in front of goal should see a comfortable look to the scoreline. With the visitors also conceding on a fairly regular basis, we think that backing a 2-0 home win looks like the most likely scoreline to earn a return.
