Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Neither Sampdoria or Monza have scored multiple goals in a Serie A match this campaign, and with four goals each, they are the two worst attacking outfits in the Italian top flight. Meanwhile, the last three games to feature Monza have contained under 2.5 goals.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Monza have avoided defeat in back-to-back games, while Samp are winless this season and have scored just two goals in their four home Serie A games. The two teams have just one win between them in 14 league games.

Sampdoria vs Monza Predictions

  • With just four goals apiece after seven games, Sampdoria and Monza are Serie A’s lowest-scoring teams this season.
  • The last three games to feature Monza have contained under 2.5 goals.
  • Neither of these teams have scored multiple goals in a league match this season.

Pressure builds on Giampaolo

The way in which Marco Giampaolo led Sampdoria to survival last season was not entirely convincing, and a return of just two points from the opening seven games of this campaign has left the Samp boss under pressure ahead of their clash with Monza. While the visitors posted a historic win over Juventus last time out, they are the only team in the division to score as few goals as Samp, making a tight affair likely.

Indeed, Sampdoria and Monza are the two worst attacking outfits in Serie A, each scoring just four goals this season. The hosts have failed to hit multiple goals in any of their eight games in all competitions this term, while only three Serie A teams have created less than their 6.5 expected goals (xG). At home, meanwhile, Giampaolo’s men have hit the net just twice in four matches.

Monza have also failed to score multiple goals in a Serie A match this term, though Raffaele Palladino made a perfect start to his tenure as coach against Juve. Monza have now seen under 2.5 goals scored in three successive games, avoiding defeat in the last two, but only two Serie A teams – Lecce and Spezia – have recorded fewer shots in the season’s early weeks.

Cagey clash anticipated

With both sides in dire attacking form, we’re tipping under 2.5 goals to be scored in Sunday’s contest in Genoa.

Meanwhile, given the teams have just one win between them in 14 league games this campaign, a 1-1 draw could represent a decent correct score prediction, and would potentially push Giampaolo closer to the brink.
