FC Porto to Win

Reason for tip

Shakhtar Donetsk are winless in their last eight designated home games in the Champions League group stage, while Porto have won all three of their away matches in this season’s Primeira Liga. Sergio Conceicao’s side are also unbeaten in four previous meetings with the Ukrainian champions.

FC Porto 2-1

Reason for tip

Porto have won their last three away matches and should have enough to beat a Shakhtar side that have failed to win any of their last eight designated home games in the Champions League group stage. However, just one clean sheet in six competitive games this season means Porto are liable to concede.

Shakhtar Donetsk vs FC Porto Predictions

  • Shakhtar Donetsk are winless in their last eight designated home games in the Champions League group stage
  • Porto have won all three of their away matches in this season’s Primeira Liga
  • Sergio Conceicao’s visitors have kept just one clean sheet in six competitive games this season

Shakhtar struggling for Champions League wins

Shakhtar Donetsk have failed to win any of their last eight designated home matches in the Champions League and have suffered heavy defeats to Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Borussia Monchengladbach during that time.

The Ukrainian champions have also failed to win any of their four previous meetings with Porto, although this will be the first time the two teams have locked horns for the best part of a decade.

Porto starting the season strongly

Porto have made an unbeaten start to the new Primeira Liga season and are on a three-game winning streak away from home, although clean-sheets have been harder to come by, they have kept just one in six competitive matches to date this term.

Sergio Conceicao’s side reached the Champions League knockout stages last season, topping their group before being narrowly edged out by eventual finalists Inter Milan in the round of 16, while they have won two of their last three away games in Europe, putting three past Bayer Leverkusen and four on Club Brugge.

This is a match Porto will be confident of winning, although their lack of clean sheets suggests Shakhtar can at least trouble the scoresheet.
