Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds Predictions
- Wednesday have scored in five successive home games.
- Leeds scored 36 goals in 23 away games last season.
- Leeds are winless after three games.
Leeds in need of derby boost
Leeds were the favourites to win the Championship going into the season but a poor start means they are already under a bit of pressure ahead of Friday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
The Elland Road outfit have two points from two games, and they were dumped out of the EFL Cup by league rivals Middlesbrough.
Wednesday made a blistering start to the season with a 4-0 thrashing of Plymouth at Hillsborough but then lost by the same scoreline at Sunderland last weekend, winning their own cup game in between those league games.
Both teams to score stands out
Leeds are the clear favourites but as they are yet to get going they are perhaps best avoided in the match betting. The Whites have lost some key men, with Georginio Rutter departing for Brighton recently, and haven’t really replaced them yet either and that has to be a concern.
Wednesday’s 4-0 hammering at the Stadium of Light also makes them hard to really get behind here and I feel this could end up all-square, so both teams to score looks a decent starting point at the current prices.
Leeds won 2-0 at this venue last season and are generally good for a goal on their travels, having managed 36 in 23 trips last term. Wednesday have scored six goals across their three games this term and they did create a few decent opportunities at Sunderland despite failing to score, so both of these teams look capable of scoring.
Wednesday have been tough to beat at Hillsborough under Danny Rohl and Leeds are the only team who have managed a win at this Sheffield venue in the Owls’ last 11 games here. They have drawn three of their last five home games, all of which were score draws, so both sides may have to settle for a point and a 1-1 result is the correct score pick.
The Owls are the clear underdogs so it makes sense to look at their players for a scorer bet and Josh Windass catches the eye as an outside option. Windass scored in the rout of Plymouth and ended last season with three goals in as many games, so he could be Wednesday’s danger man on Friday.
