Reason For Sheffield Wednesday vs Watford Predictions

  • Sheffield Wednesday won only seven of their 23 Championship home games last season
  • Wednesday were the lowest home scorers in the Championship last season, netting only 19 times in 23 games
  • Watford scored just 14 goals in 19 Premier League away games last season

Low-scoring draw represents the value

Sheffield Wednesday erased some of their 12-point deduction with victory at Cardiff in their opening game of the new Championship season, but the troubled Owls are going to find things tougher at home to Watford.

Wednesday won only seven of their 23 Championship home games last season and they have since seen strikers Atdhe Nuhiu, Steven Fletcher and Fernando Forestieri leave Hillsborough, which has reduced some of their attacking quality.

That doesn’t bode well long-term given the Owls were the lowest home scorers in the Championship last season, netting only 19 times in 23 games, and Watford have the defensive quality to frustrate them.

Vladimir Ivic opened his Watford account with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough. However, the Hornets registered just two shots on target and they are currently operating without many of their first-team players, so they may get stronger as the season progresses.

Watford scored just 14 goals in 19 Premier League away games last season and key attackers Troy Deeney, Andre Gray, Gerard Deuolefu, Roberto Pereyra, Danny Welbeck and  Isaac Success are all still unavailable.

With everything considered, goals may be hard to come by and we are predicting a 1-1 draw – Wednesday have scored exactly once in five of their last eight competitive home games.
