Sint-Truidense vs Genk Predictions

Sixth placed Sint-Truidense return from the winter break with a home game against top of the Belgium First Division A Genk on Friday. The visitors with a seven point lead at the top of the table and will be looking to pick up where they left off against Gent at the end of December.

Sint-Truidense could only manage a 1-1 draw away at Oostende last time out, despite having a golden opportunity to go 2-0 up in the first half. A fourth minute strike from Botaka thrust Sint-Truidense into a 1-0 lead after good work from Asamoah, but twenty minutes later the goalscorer fluffed his lines after stepping up to take a penalty for the visitors and shortly after De Bock levelled for the hosts. The second half failed to produce any more goals for either side and on the balance of play the visitors were lucky to leave with a point as Oostende had the only meaningful attacks.

Genk went 1-0 down at home against Gent via a sixth minute Bronn strike, but the teams went in level at the half time interval thanks to a twenty-third minute equaliser from Samatta. Genk took just two second half minutes to move in front after an effort from Dewaest beat Thoelen in the visitors goal, and things went from bad to worse for Gent in the seventy-sixth minute when Rosted was shown a straight red card. With five minutes left on the clock Heynen scored to secure all three points for the hosts, and it was the least Genk deserved following another impressive display at home.

When these two sides last met in August the points were shared as Genk and Sint-Truidense drew 1-1 at the Luminus Arena. The first half ended goalless despite the best efforts of the hosts Genk who could have been two of three goals up at the break. The hosts did take the lead in the sixty-eighth minute through Malinovskiy, but were pegged back three minutes later by a goal from Japanese substitute Endo. The home side had 65% of the overall possession, nine corners to their guests two, and nineteen shots during the ninety minutes, but had to settle for a share of the spoils following a frustrating day in front of goal.

With four wins, one draw, and one defeat from their last six matches, Genk head into Friday’s game as the clear form favourites. The hosts have just one win, three draws, and two defeats from their last six and are facing the best team in the Belgian First Division A this Friday. Kamada has been in impressive form for Sint-Truidense this season with ten league goals to his name so far, while with fifteen goals its Samatta who top scores for Genk.

We’re confident that under 2.5 goals will be scored in Friday’s game, and have backed the final scoreline to read 1-1. Under 2.5 goals were scored in three of the last six meetings between these two clubs and the last two meetings between the pair both ended in draws. Under 2.5 goals have also been scored in four of Sint-Truidense’s and three of Genk’s last six competitive matches.
