Sligo Rovers vs Limerick Predictions
Neither Sligo nor Limerick will be happy with the way the season has gone so far, but the duo are at least eight points ahead of the automatic relegation place and just three behind seventh placed Bohemians. A victory for either side is unlikely to see them moved ahead of Bohemians, but Limerick will be aiming to move ahead of Sligo and to improve their poor goal difference. Sligo might share the same points tally as their guests, but Friday’s hosts are ten goals better off at -12 and will view this game as easily winnable.
Sligo Rovers edged a tight and tense reverse league fixture between the two clubs in April, in which the first half ended goalless and produced little in the way of noteworthy moments. Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder McCabe opened the scoring just shy of the hour mark to send Sligo into the lead away from home. Limerick pushed forward in search of an equaliser and were caught out by a counter attack from their guests which lead to Moorhouse scoring the all important second goal. Former Peterborough player Kearns did manage to halve the deficit with a ninetieth minute strike for the home side, but it ended up being no more than a consolation goal.
Neither Sligo or Limerick can claim to be in good form ahead of their Friday night clash, but with two wins, one draw, and three defeats from their last six matches it’s Sligo Rovers who claim the title of form favourites. Limerick have also won two of their last six, but four defeats mean they sit behind their hosts in the form guide. Both of Limerick’s recent wins have arrived away from home, most notably their 6-3 destruction of third placed Waterford last weekend. Sligo’s home form will give the away fans reasons to be cheerful, with the hosts picking up just one win in their last three games in front of their own fans. We believe that Limerick’s recent strong away performances give them a great chance of taking all three points against Sligo, but with both teams scoring just fourteen league goals this season, we’re not expecting a goal fest.
Morgan leads the way with four Premier Division goals for Sligo this season, while teammates McAleer and McCabe have netted two goals each. With five league goals so far, Morrissey top scores for the visitors and provides their most likely source of goals ahead of Friday’s game.
We’re confident that Limerick will take something from tomorrows game due to their recent upturn in fortunes away from home, especially as Sligo have been less than convincing in their own backyard of late. As for a final score, we’re going with a narrow 1-0 win for the visitors or a goalless draw if the game ends all square.
Sligo Rovers Predicted Lineup: Beeney, Callan-McFadden, Waters, Boylan, Donelon, Mahon, McCabe, McAleer, Keaney, Morgan, Morrison.
Limerick Predicted Lineup: Clarke, Kelly, Whitehead, Cantwell, Dennehy, Duggan, Clifford, Kearns, Coleman, Fitzgerald, O’Sullivan.
