Spain vs Iceland Predictions

  • Spain have won four out of their last six home friendlies,
  • Iceland have lost their last nine internationals against nations currently inside the top-12 of FIFA’s rankings.
  • Iceland have conceded at least three goals in three of their last five internationals not played on home soil.

Spain can smash innocent Iceland

Spain my be experimenting a little in a bid to find the right formula for the World Cup, but Luis Enrique’s side should have too much for a young Iceland squad in La Coruna this week.

La Furia Roja showed their potential at Euro 2020 and have since evolved into an even scarier team with so much depth in the midfield area in particular. They out-passed France in the Nations League Final, but were undone by their opponents’ clinical finishing and a controversial winner that appeared to be offside.

Defensively they are sound under pressure as demonstrated by each of their 1-0 wins over Greece and Sweden in the final two qualifiers for Qatar 2020. Spain have conceded just three goals in their last six internationals and should really keep a clean sheet in this week’d friendly fixture.

La Furia Roja are a fearsome force

Iceland arrive off the back of a 1-1 away draw with Finland. More than 60% of Arnar Viðarsson’s squad are 23 and under and only five members have more than 20 caps to their name. Our Boys are in transition and facing Spain is their biggest challenge to date.

This Iceland are not yet up to stopping Spain’s midfield carousel running the show in midfield and the scoreline will be decided by how many goals the hosts want and whether their finishing is equal to the build-up play.

Spain haven’t scored more than two goals in a game against Iceland in their entire history, but this matchup stands a very good chance of breaking the pattern. A 3-0 success is our preferred correct score bet as Iceland have conceded at least three goals in three of their last five internationals not played on home soil.
