Tired legs could make things interesting in La Spezia

Fiorentina’s Europa Conference League exploits are weighing heavily on a squad that still lacks an identity or balance and that should make Sunday’s trip to relegation-threatened Spezia tougher than it needs to be. La Viola gained an important three points against Istanbul Basaksehir in midweek to partially rid themselves of the frustrated feeling left from last weekend’s 4-3 home loss to Inter Milan.

Luka Jovic scored again but clean sheets remain elusive for Vincenzo Italiano’s side, who have seen goals go in at both ends in their last four matches. Some players could be running on empty too after a packed schedule that has seen the Florence club play seven games in 25 days.

Both teams scoring has been a running theme throughout Spezia’s home Serie A matches since the end of August with three of their last four games having finished 2-2. Even the one that didn’t could easily have followed suit as the hosts came from a goal down to beat Sampdoria 2-1.

Key wingers still out for Italiano’s men

Without wingers Riccardo Sottil and Nico Gonzalez through injury, Fiorentina can lack a bit of spark at times, but they did manage to score three times on the road at Hearts in the Conference League and bagged at lowly Lecce in their last Serie A away trip.

The hosts have had some troubling form coming into this game, but they are better rested than Fiorentina and generally do not lose at home, so a high-scoring draw could be possible again.

Hence, a  2-2 draw cannot be ignored in correct score markets again. Fiorentina won 2-1 at this ground back in February when things were going much better for them in the league, but a draw may be the best they can manage in their current state.
