St Etienne vs Nancy Predictions

St Etienne endured a torrid evening in Lorient on Saturday as goalkeeper Jessy Moulin’s red card on ten minutes marked the beginning of a very tough match. They eventually lost the game 2-1 to make it back to back losses in Ligue 1.

Overall their form has been rather disappointing recently, as illustrated by the fact they have only won three of their last ten games in all competitions. In Ligue 1 it’s more of the same, with two wins, three draws, and three defeats in their last eight outings putting them in 8th position in the table.

They are still only four points adrift of 4th placed Guingamp to be fair, but their overall form is looking a bit shoddy at the moment and they are dropping a lot of needless points, including at home. On home soil St Etienne have only won one of their last five, drawing three and losing once.

They are facing a Nancy side high on confidence here as well. The visitors drew 1-1 with Toulouse on Saturday to make it six wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last ten outings in all competitions.

This makes up for a poor start to the campaign and they have managed to drag themselves up to 14th position in Ligue 1, but their current form suggests they are capable of rising even further. Their run of fixtures has been somewhat favourable though, which is something that needs to be taken into consideration.

One of Nancy’s opponents during this run was none other than St Etienne. They visited them last week in the Coupe de la Ligue and came away with a 1-0 win to progress in the competition, and undoubtedly they will have gleaned a psychological edge from that victory.

Away from home Nancy have struggled in Ligue 1 though, drawing four and losing three of their last seven games. During this time they have been relatively well drilled defensively, thrashings against Monaco and Marseille apart, St Etienne aren’t the highest scoring side in the league either, especially with Robert Beric out injured.

In fact, seven of St Etienne’s nine home games in Ligue 1 this season have seen fewer than three goals, as have seven of Nancy’s nine away days. In addition to this Nancy have seen both teams score in just two of their trips away this season and St Etienne have in four of their nine at home. Backing Both Teams Not to Score at 4/6 looks a good option here, as does a goalless draw at 6/1 for our correct score predictions.
