St Etienne vs Nantes Predictions
- Saint-Etienne ended a run of three straight defeats with a 0-1 victory at Nice on Sunday.
- Nantes are without a victory in their last 13 Ligue 1 matches (D7, L6).
- Les Canaris have won just one of their 11 away trips this season, losing seven.
Les Verts Given a Narrow Vote
A tight encounter looks on the cards at Stade Geoffroy Guichard this Wednesday between two poor top flight sides, but it’s Saint-Etienne who are handed the narrow vote following their morale-boosting weekend victory at Nice.
Both of these clubs have struggled massively this term and sit 16th and 17th respectively in the Ligue 1 table, although Saint-Etienne maintained some daylight between themselves and the relegation zone with a crucial three point scalp at Allianz Riviera on Sunday.
Charles Abi’s late strike ended a run of three straight defeats for Les Verts and they go into this contest four points clear of the bottom three and opponents Nantes who were beaten 1-2 at home by Monaco.
Nantes turned in a pretty decent display against Les Monegasques who went into that game on a four match winning streak, but the result extended Les Canaris’ winless run in the league to 13 games (D7, L6).
With just one win and seven defeats from 11 starts on the road this season, Nantes make little appeal here and it may pay to side with the hosts who should be in good spirits following their elusive victory at the weekend.
Goals could well be at a premium with Saint-Etienne scoring just nine at home and Nantes managing the same tally on their travels this season, so we’re predicting a 1-0 correct score for what’s likely to be a tight, low quality affair at Stade Geoffroy Guichard.
