Dundee vs St Mirren Predictions

  • Dundee have failed to score in four of their last five home games.
  • St Mirren have failed to score in each of Stephen Robinson’s three games in charge.
  • St Mirren produced an xG of 0.02 in their recent away defeat to Celtic.
  • Four of the last six Dundee home games have featured fewer than two goals.

Goal backers beware – this will be a stale affair

Goals look set to be scarce when rock-bottom Dundee host sinking St Mirren in this twice-postponed Premiership fixture on Wednesday.

The Buddies have lost their goal touch since Jim Goodwin departed last month with new manager Stephen Robinson yet to experience the joy of his team scoring in three games so far. The Paisley side set up very defensively against Celtic last week and produced a paltry xG figure of 0.02 in a 2-0 defeat.

Things did improve slightly after they went behind in Dingwall on Saturday, but the fact that it took Ross County to go 1-0 up before they created anything serious remains a concern. If they wait for Dundee to take the lead on Tuesday they could be waiting a long time because Mark McGhee’s side have failed to find the back of the net in four of their last five at Dens Park.

New managers not yet trusting their sides

McGhee took on his former employers Motherwell without a recognised striker at the weekend after 10 first team stars were ruled out through injury or COVID-19.

Both managers are new to their roles and neither really seems to trust each side enough to risk much in attack and therefore a stale contest is expected. Our recommendation of fewer than two goals being scored on Wednesday tallies with Dundee’s record of four of their last six home games each featuring no more than one goal. Likewise, two of the last four St Mirren away league games have seen only one goal registered.

The correct score play of 0-0 is based on Dundee’s failure to score in four of their last five home games and St Mirren’s recent dry patch under Robinson’s charge.
