Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

St Mirren have scored twice in their last three home games against the Old Firm. Last season’s most recent encounter finished 2-2 and that scoreline could be repeated if Rangers defend like they did on Tuesday against Club Brugge.

Martin’s messaging is not hitting the mark

Rangers go looking for their first Premiership win of the campaign in Paisley on Saturday when they take on tough-to-beat St Mirren.

Ibrox boss Russell Martin bizarrely said he was ‘proud’ of his players after Tuesday’s 3-1 home defeat to Club Brugge left their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread. Many felt his stinging criticism of the Rangers players after their opening league match of the season, a 0-0 draw at Motherwell, came all too soon.

But any more first-half performances like the one in midweek are going to get him the sack. The ex-Southampton boss desperately needs a good result at the SMISA Stadium, where Rangers picked up one point from a possible six last term.

Both teams to bag in Paisley

The Buddies lost only one of their last seven league games in 2024-25 on the back of some solid defending and they have shipped only once in two Premiership outings this term.

Their goal did lead a charmed life in a 1-0 loss to Celtic, when the hosts hit the woodwork three times and had a goal chalked off before they broke the deadlock. An identical result to Rangers’ against Motherwell next up shows how evenly-matched these sides might be.

Back both teams to score in a close game that could finish level. BTTS has landed in six of the Light Blues’ seven matches in all competitions this term while St Mirren have scored in nine of their last 10 home matches and conceded in eight.
