      Stevenage vs Watford Predictions

With 11 managers since 2010 and four all in 2014 alone, Watford will be hoping that Javi Gracia can be the man to break the trend and cement his place in the Vicarage Road dugout. However, the Spaniard only averages about a year at each club he manages so the stats aren’t very positive for the ex-Rubin Kazan man.

Further bleak points of conversation come in the form of losing their most promising player Richarlison to Everton. The 21-year-old shone at the beginning of last season with five goals and three assists in his first 12 games. Under Marco Silva everything seemed rosy but after some Merseyside meddling the duo’s form dropped off and Silva was ultimately sacked, only to be given the Toffees job a few months later.

To combat this big loss, they will be hoping for Isaac Success to push on from small spells of brilliance, Gerard Deulofeu to rekindle his form during his first term at the club and new signing Ken Sema to remain spritely after a successful Europa League campaign with Östersunds. If these players don’t hit the ground running then Watford could continue to struggle and fail to get above a lower half league finish.

Gracia only garnered four wins in his first 15 as Watford finished the season with a whimper and they haven’t improved much in pre-season so far. A draw against Bundesliga relegated FC Köln and a convincing 3-1 win against newly promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf means an interesting season for Watford ahead. The Hertfordshire side still look rusty in pre-season conceding in both games and this could be something that Stevenage take advantage of.

Despite a poor season last year, slumping to 16th, Dino Maamria definitely has the team now producing steelier performances. The Tunisian only got the job in March but has won every match in pre-season so far except a late defeat to Crystal Palace. Wins against the likes of Portsmouth and Coventry are sure to have spurned on the team and they will be looking to match Premier League opposition at the second attempt this pre-season. Stevenage lost their most promising youth prospect Ben Wilmot to Watford at the end of last season with a club-record fee, but the money received has already been reinvested into the side as Maamria looks to build his own experienced team.

Stevenage have played more than double the games of Watford and have been scoring freely so the League 2 team could nip this one. Javi Gracia is also expected to field a mix of first team and youth players so the odds could fall into the Boro’s hands. High scores have been the trend for both these teams recently with 23 goals between the clubs’ pre-season games so we’re backing Both teams to Score and a draw due to the good form of Stevenage, the fact they got a good result off of Crystal Palace but still keeping in mind the quality of the opposition.
