Strasbourg vs Amiens Predictions
- Amiens have conceded the second most goals in Ligue 1 this season with 47 leaked in 25 matches.
- Strasbourg have won seven of their last nine home games but have kept just three clean sheets in their last eleven at the Meinau.
- Strasbourg have scored at least two goals in four of their last six home games and won 4-0 when these teams last met in November.
Amiens buzzing following PSG win
Luka Elsner’s job was at risk when Amiens went into their clash with PSG last week. The Unicorns were winless in nine matches and many believed that the Slovenian coach was in line for the sack if he couldn’t pull something out of the bag. But Amiens managed to pull something out of the bag. They got a miraculous 4-4 draw with PSG, tainted slightly by the fact that they were 3-0 up at one point, to get the wind back in their sails and further away from bottom club Toulouse.
Amiens have been improving recently with the two results prior to this being a 0-0 draw with Lyon and a narrow 2-1 defeat to Monaco, Amiens led 1-0 going into the 85th minute. However, their away form has been rather poor and could be a big hindrance here. The Unicorns have won just one game away from home all season with their recent draw in Lyon putting an end to their streak of seven defeats in a row. They’ve now scored in just two of their last six on the road and will need to raise their levels again if they want to beat Strasbourg.
Strasbourg continuing to impress
The hosts have lost just two of their last nine league games with a draw and two wins in their last three lifting them up to 7th in the table. They most recently drew 1-1 with Lyon but really should have won it as Alexander Djiku somehow managed to miss his shot on the line in the last minute of the match. Strasbourg have been in fine attacking form recently with nine goals scored in their last five in Ligue 1 and even though that wasn’t shown to its full effects last week, they’ll be hoping to get back on track here against Amiens.
Strasbourg will be the hosts which will come of great benefit as the Stade de la Meinau has been crucial to their success this season. They have won seven of their last nine home matches with Lille and Lyon being the only sides to have beaten them in that time. Against the weaker teams, Strasbourg have been dominant with Saint-Étienne (2-1), Toulouse (4-2) and Nîmes (4-1) all being put to the sword recently. However, the Alsatians have kept just three clean sheets in their last eleven home games so will need to be wary here against the Unicorns.
Goals on the cards for the hosts?
As much as Amiens put four past PSG last week, Paris did field a weakened team in the wake of their Champions League clash with Dortmund. PSG’s back-four was made up of Thiago Silva (35), Juan Bernat (30), Tanguy Kouassi (17) and Mitchel Bakker (19) who had all never played together so we’re not making too many judgements on Amiens’ attack following this game as before it they had scored just once in three matches.
We are backing them to net here though as Strasbourg have generally been awful defensively at home but ultimately we see the three points going to the home team. The Alsatians have been scoring for fun recently, especially against the league’s weaker sides, so we’re backing Strasbourg to win this 3-1. Amiens have conceded 47 goals in 25 league games this season, the second worst tally in the division, so if PSG could net three last week, we’re expecting Strasbourg to score at least two in this match, something they’ve done in four of their last six home outings.
