      Swindon vs Scunthorpe Predictions

      • Swindon have won nine of their ten home matches against bottom-half opposition this season.
      • Swindon have scored two or more in seven of their ten home games against teams that are currently in the bottom half.
      • Scunthorpe have conceded two or more in seven of their nine away games against top-half teams.

      Robins flying high

After a couple of poor results, the Swindon shipped looked as though it was rocking slightly, though the Robins have steadied themselves of late, winning three of their last four, including each of their last two. After a confident display against Grimsby last time out, Richie Wellens’ league leaders will fancy themselves to get the better of a lowly Scunthorpe side.

Not only are Swindon top of the pile and in form, but they have an exceptional record at home against bottom-half opposition, winning nine of their ten home games against those currently in the bottom half. They’ve scored two or more in seven of those ten. Such a record bodes very well ahead of a match against visitors, who’ve struggled on the road of late, especially defensively.

      Iron blighted by inconsistency

While Swindon have regained their consistency in recent weeks, Scunthorpe are struggling to put together a string of results, which has been the case for some time. The Iron have done a reasonable job of avoiding defeat on the road at times, losing three of their last ten travelling matches, but their defensive record is very poor, as is their record against the better teams in the division.

Scunthorpe have won just one out of nine on the road against teams that currently reside in the top ten. They’ve had little problem scoring against the big boys, notching in seven of those nine, but their defending in such games has been poor. They’ve conceded in eight out of nine, conceding at least twice in seven of those eight. Such a record doesn’t exactly suggest that they’ll keep things tight away against one of the best attacks in the division.

      Hosts to overpower weak visitors

Swindon’s home record against teams of Scunthorpe’s ilk is hard to ignore, but so is the fact that the visitors have made a habit of scoring away against top-half teams. On this basis, ‘Swindon to Win & Both Teams to Score’ appeals. The Iron have scored with regularity in games such as this, but their awful defensive record makes them easy to oppose when it comes to getting a result. Moreover, Swindon have conceded in three of their last four at home, all of which have see the Robins come out on top, while they’ve regularly scored multiple goals against those who currently sit below 12th place.

‘Correct Score’ players might opt for a 3-1 home win. Scunny have scored regularly in this sort of match, but Swindon haven’t conceded more than once at home to a bottom-half team since August. Add in that Swindon have scored exactly three six times at home this season, scoring thrice in three of their last four, couple it with the fact that Scunthorpe have shipped three in two of their last three on the road, and a 3-1 win for the Robins starts to look like a solid option.
