  • Rayo Vallecano have not lost to Valencia in four of last five

Vallecano poised for at least a draw

Valencia host Rayo Vallecano this Thursday evening in a La Liga match-up between two mid-table teams who both have an outside chance of securing a European place next season. A lot will depend on how other teams perform, but both teams here will be hopeful of a win to keep their chances alive. Valencia are the favourites playing at home, but it’s Vallecano who arrive in good form, unbeaten in their last six matches, including two wins against Strasbourg which secured their place in the Conference League final.

Valencia, meanwhile, have been more inconsistent, winning two of their last five but also losing two. When the two sides played earlier in the season, it finished in a 1-1 draw, but it was Vallecano who had the more and better chances, generating an xG of 1.57 compared to Valencia’s 0.63. Of their last five meetings, both sides have one win apiece, with the other three ending in draws.

While they may not come away with the win, it’s hard to see Vallecano losing this given the form they are in and how they performed against Valencia earlier in the season. Double chance looks a cracking bet for The Red Sashes. They’ve kept three clean sheets in their last five matches and, if they score first, they may be able to hold on for a 1-0 win.
