Are Venezia being dragged into trouble?

A run of three successive defeats, albeit against three of Serie A’s current top six, has left Venezia looking nervously over their shoulders, a single point above the relegation zone. Venezia have now gone eight league games without winning, although that run has seen them face all of Italy’s top six.

Their next assignment looks a difficult one. Empoli were deservedly thrashed 5-1 by Sassuolo last weekend, although three of the Neroverdi’s goals came when Empoli were reduced to ten men. Although they’ve gone four league games without a win, Empoli are unbeaten on their travels in five games, and have lost just once on the road since early October.

Empoli’s record of five away Serie A wins this season is bettered only by Atalanta, AC Milan, Inter, Napoli, and Juventus, and Aurelio Andreazzoli’s fearless newly-promoted outfit have taken 18 of their 28 points away from home.

Visitors can bounce back

Empoli’s away form has been excellent upon their Serie A return, and has been crucial in their surprise challenge for a top-half finish. Their only away defeats this season came at Roma and Verona, and they should have enough about them to avenge an early-season 2-1 loss to Venezia on Sunday.

Backing Empoli to win looks the smart play. With both teams netting in each of their last five games, a 2-1 away win could be a decent correct score prediction.
