Palermo need to win Friday’s Serie B play-off semi-final return clash in Venice by two clear goals after losing the first leg at home to Venezia 1-0.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, the Pink and Blacks were made to pay for standing off and allowing Nicholas Pierini to take aim with his less-favoured left foot from 25 yards out.

Pierini’s precise strike separates the sides going into this game, but Palermo will still go out if the scores are level on aggregate after 90 minutes because they finished lower in the standings than Venezia.
