Giant-killing Sassuolo enter Italy’s top half

Alessio Dionisi’s Sassuolo have been inconsistent for much of the campaign, but their sparkling attacking football is starting to reap rewards, and they have managed a return of seven points from fixtures against Roma, Inter, and Fiorentina, while the Neroverdi are now in the rare position of having won away at each of Inter, AC Milan, and Juventus in a single season.

Sassuolo are now into the top half, and their record of 45 goals this season is enough to match both Roma and Fiorentina, though the Neroverdi have conceded as many as they’ve scored. The likes of Domenico Berardi and Gianluca Scamacca, both of whom could be key to Italy’s hopes of reaching the World Cup, have hit 10 goals each this term, and will be confident of adding to their tallies at Venezia.

Venezia, on the other hand, have slipped into the relegation zone after a run of one win in 10 games. Paolo Zanetti’s men have the third-worst attacking record in Serie A, but are now struggling to keep goals out at the other end, with both teams scoring in five of their last six games.

Back Neroverdi to win, but Venezia should land a blow

Sassuolo have only conceded two goals fewer than their relegation-threatened hosts this term, and have conceded a goal in six of their last seven league wins. A Sassuolo win with both teams finding the net, therefore, looks to be the best play for Sunday’s encounter.

Meanwhile, a repeat of the Neroverdi’s 3-1 win in the reverse fixture looks a good correct score prediction.
