Wales vs Serbia Predictions

Wales enjoyed success beyond their wildest dreams in France in the summer as they made it all the way to the semi finals of Euro 2016, outlasting the other two home nations and even knocking out the world class talents of Belgium with their brand of determination mixed with skill and organisation.

It’s been a bit of a struggle for them to live up to the billing since then though. A 4-0 hammering of Moldova kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign, followed by a respectable 2-2 draw in Austria and then a much less respectable 1-1 draw at home to Georgia.

These are points they really can’t afford to be dropping if they want to make it to Russia in 2018, because the likes of Serbia, Republic of Ireland, and Austria will all feel they have a chance of taking the only automatic qualification spot.

Serbia are the ones doing the best job at the moment, which is a bit of a surprise given their torrid time in Euro 2016 qualifying. They finished second from bottom in their group with just four points from their eight games, although they did have three points deducted as well. Even so they simply didn’t perform well enough, but they do seem to have learned their lesson a bit.

They started getting back to form in the build up to Euro 2016 as they beat Cyprus and Israel in friendlies before drawing against Russia. They kicked off their World Cup qualifying in September with a 2-2 draw at home to Republic of Ireland, but since then they have beaten Moldova and Austria.

During this campaign they have scored a very impressive eight goals and conceded four in their three games, with Dusan Tadic proving the most lethal with a goal in each of their games. Considering he is also their main set piece taker as well, you could do a lot worse than backing him to score anytime.

Wales obviously have their own talisman in Gareth Bale. He was recently named Welsh Player of the Year for the 6th year running and has netted three times so far this campaign. You can never go wrong backing him to find the net.

Both of these teams seem to be focusing heavily on the attacking aspect of their game at the moment. They have kept just one clean sheet each and have conceded seven goals between them. At the other end of the pitch Wales have netted seven times and Serbia have found the net eight times. Considering the excellent attacking potential of both teams, backing Both Teams to Score at 19/20 looks a good option, and I’m also going for a 2-2 correct score prediction at excellent odds of 16/1.
