West Brom vs Liverpool Predictions

West Brom have had a pretty disappointing season really, and they are coming into the final game of the season in 15th position. They could climb to 12th with a win, or they could drop to 16th. Either way it’s nothing to shout about, and they will be hoping to finally make some improvements over the summer after years of mediocre finishes.

Their form towards the end of the season has been worse than mediocre though. They are winless in eight Premier League matches and have lost five of those, and at the Hawthorns they have lost three on the bounce and won just two of their last nine in all competitions.

Liverpool have enjoyed a much better end to the season than they did the start of it, and that’s thanks to Jurgen Klopp. The charismatic German has revitalised Liverpool and taken them to the Europa League final with a couple of incredible nights at Anfield against Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal.

Their Premier League performances have been less impressive for the most part. They may find themselves in the Europa League final, but they could find themselves missing out on continental football next year if they’re not careful. They currently sit in 8th position in the Premier League, and to have a chance of qualification through league position they need to finish in at least 7th. But even that counts for nothing if Manchester United don’t win the FA Cup.

With Liverpool relying on other results to go their way to qualify for Europe through the league, all of their focus will be on the Europa League final against Sevilla. A win in Basle would send them into the Champions League, so I’m expecting a few legs to be rested on Sunday as they look to put out the strongest available team on Thursday.

The visitors drew with Chelsea in midweek to make it two wins, two defeats, and two draws in their last six matches in all competitions. Both of these wins came on home turf, and away from home they have won just one of their last six outings, scoring a mediocre seven goals in the process.

With Liverpool focusing on Thursday and West Brom in poor form I’m not expecting this to be a particularly exciting match. Liverpool have struggled to score as freely on the road and only half of their last eight away days have seen three or more goals scored. Seven of West Brom’s last nine games have had fewer than three goals scored as well, so odds of 11/10 for Under 2.5 Goals look exceptionally good value. I’m backing a 1-1 correct score prediction at 11/2 as well.
