Whitecaps vs Chicago Fire Predictions

Whitecaps finished their last campaign in 2nd place in the MLS Western Conference, but this season things haven’t been as plain sailing. They began the new season with back to back defeats to Montreal Impact and Sporting Kansas City before bouncing back and winning against Seattle Sounders and Houston Dynamo.

Their following seven matches have seen Whitecaps perform very inconsistently, with two wins, two draws, and three defeats giving them a fairly poor return of 14 points from their first 11 games.

This puts Whitecaps down in 7th position in the Western Conference, and six of the other nine teams in the division have games in hand on them, including all three below them. When all the games in hand are taken into account, they could well find themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference.

Chicago Fire finished last season at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, and it’s not looking good this year either. They started the campaign off with a thrilling, but ultimately fruitless, 4-3 defeat to New York City, and they have only managed one victory since then.

They have managed to avoid defeat in the majority of games, but one win, four draws, and two defeats in their opening seven games only gives them a marginally better points per game ratio than last season.

It also leaves them bottom of the Eastern Conference again, although they do have games in hand on every other team in the league. A win on Thursday could move them into 9th.

Whitecaps have only lost once at home all season though, with three wins and two draws making up the remainder of their six home games this term. Chicago Fire have only played on the road twice so far this season, with both of those games ending as draws. But the visitors have proved difficult to beat this season, so odds of 6/5 for a Chicago Fire Win or Draw Double Chance looks very valuable considering they have only lost twice and are facing a Whitecaps side who have only won half of their home matches.
