Manchester City to Win

Reason for tip

Manchester City have won their last six meetings with Chelsea in all competitions. The Citizens have won five straight games, scoring 17 goals along the way. City meet a Chelsea side who struggled against nine-man Tottenham on Monday night, so they should be no match for the champions.

Manchester City 3-1

Reason for tip

City have scored at least three goals in each of their last four, scoring exactly three in three of those outings. Chelsea have improved going forward, but they looked unable to deal with Spurs’ at full-strength early in Monday’s clash so back City to carve them open and claim a 3-1 win.

Erling Haaland To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Haaland has scored twice in three of his last four games and he has failed to score just once since the last international break. The striker is always a threat and it’s hard to see Chelsea keeping him quiet, so back him at a shade under evens.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Predictions

  • City have won each of their last five, scoring 17 times
  • Chelsea have lost eight home league games in 2023
  • The Blues have lost their last six clashes with Man City

Victory clouds Chelsea’s issues

Chelsea had the best possible preparation for this clash, having won 4-1 at Tottenham on Monday night. Ending their bitter rivals’ unbeaten record was a big boost for the Blues, as were the two red cards dished out to Spurs.

It’s fitting for the malaise that Chelsea are in that they struggled against a nine-man Spurs side who threw caution to the wind. Nicolas Jackson added shine to the scoreline with a hat-trick in the final 15 minutes, but Tottenham gave the Blues a scare even while playing with nine, having sacrificed key attackers for defensive replacements.

The idea that Monday’s performance in any way suggests Chelsea can match a City side who have hit their groove is hard to get behind.

Impressive City win again

Manchester City did benefit from that Chelsea win, as they moved top of the Premier League table once again. Pep Guardiola’s side are on a roll right now, having secured their fifth-straight victory on Tuesday night. City ran out 3-0 winners over Young Boys in midweek, taking their tally to 17 goals across their last five.

The champions barely broke a sweat in their 6-1 dismantling of Bournemouth last Saturday, with Erling Haaland coming off after 45 minutes without scoring. The forward did hit a brace in Europe in midweek, so he’s back to full fitness and ready to make an impact here. The forward has scored six times across his last three games, so he’s good value for a goal on Sunday.

Citizens to prove too strong

These two sides met four times last term, with Chelsea losing every one of those clashes. The Blues have lost their last four Premier League meetings with Man City and they’ve been beaten across six straight matches in all competitions, which suggests they will struggle this weekend.

This is a City side who look great, while the Blues are still a long way from their best. Chelsea have lost eight home Premier League matches in 2023, they’ve never lost more across a calendar year in the competition. Another loss looms this weekend, with City set to outscore a blunt Blues’ forward line.
