Manchester United vs Young Boys Predictions

  • Manchester United have conceded in 10 of their 11 home games in all competitions.
  • Both teams to score has landed in nine of Yong Boys’ last 11 games and they have only failed to score in three of their last 12 away.
  • United are unbeaten since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit (W3, D1).

Chance for Rangnick to explore his options

Manchester United have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League as group winners ahead of their final first round fixture, while visitors Young Boys can still steal a place in the Europa League.

The Swiss side need to win in Manchester and hope Villarreal win at Atalanta to take third spot from the Italians. It will be a big ask for Young Boys but expect them to have a real go regardless, and as such goals at both ends has some appeal here.

United expected to rotate

United suffered a shock 2-1 loss in the reverse fixture and revenge may well be on their minds, but they are unlikely to put out their best XI for what is a dead-rubber fixture from their perspective.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick picked up a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in his first game in charge and there will be a temptation to try and build some momentum, but I suspect he will see this clash as an ideal opportunity to rotate his squad and take a look at a few players who haven’t been starting regularly given United have already qualified as group winners.

The clean sheet United kept against Palace was their first shut-out of the season at Old Trafford in 11 attempts, while Young Boys have only failed to score in three of their last 12 away games and they managed to find a way through the Red Devils’ backline twice in the first meeting.

With United expected to shuffle their pack and Young Boys in need of a result, this game could well be an open affair and both teams to score looks a strong option here.

United can take their revenge

United are unbeaten since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure with three wins and a draw and even if they do rotate they should still have the quality to beat Young Boys. Any players coming in will want to impress the new boss, and the Swiss outfit may well throw caution to the wind as only a win will do if they are to claim the Europa League spot. That should hand the hosts opportunities on the break, which is why a narrow 2-1 win for United looks to have a chance in the correct score market.
