Manchester City and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Manchester City have scored and conceded in three of their last four domestic cup ties against lower-tier opposition. Meanwhile,  Swansea have scored and conceded in eight of 10 home games this season. Although they beat Nottingham Forest in the last round, City are a major step up from that and should secure a safe passage to the next round in the end.

Manchester City 3-1

Reason for tip

Man City secured 2-1 wins over Watford and Leyton Orient, a 3-1 win over Plymouth and a 2-0 win at Huddersfield in their last four domestic cup games against non-Premier League clubs. Much will depend on how many Guardiola rests, but assuming he puts a strong team out, they can win 3-1 against a Swans side that have kept only one home clean sheet this season.

Divine Mukasa To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Divine Mukasa impressed as a false nine in the previous round, laying on a goal for Phil Foden. The attacking midfielder scored a superb goal for City’s Under=19s against Villarreal last week and looks ready to make his mark at first-team level.

Swans capable of giving City a scare

Swansea are capable of giving Manchester City a fright or two in this Halloween week Carabao Cup tie at Swansea.com Stadium, but Pep Guardiola should have too many cards to play for it to turn into a horror show.

That what happened to Ange Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest in the previous round when the home side rose from the dead to win 3-2 with a late winner from in-form hitman Zan Vipotnik.

The Slovenian striker turned executioner again on Saturday with a stunning double in the Swans’ 2-1 home win over a dysfunctional Norwich side and looks to be in the sort of mood to cause further trouble.

Divine intervention could be on the cards

City have a recent history of conceding goals to lower-tier opposition, which they did in three of four cup games last season.  They were forced to come from behind against Leyton Orient and Plymouth in the FA Cup and could not keep a lid on Watford when 2-0 up at home in this competition.

And although Huddersfield could not muster a goal at home to City in the third round, the Terriers had a couple of close opportunities – their best coming from a set-piece. Assuming Erling Haaland is rested for this clash, City could lack a bit of aerial prowess on corners and free-kicks.

The Norwegian was given the night off at Huddersfield with academy starlet Divine Mukasa taking up a false nine role and he could be a good anytime goalscorer option for this one if Pep picks him again.  Mukasa scored in City’s 2-1 Uefa Youth League loss to Villarreal last week and appears ready to make another mark at first-team level.
