Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and PGA tips with 314/1 double

European Ryder Cup heroes Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick and Robert MacInytre are back in action this week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, while Ludvig Aberg is the sole Ryder Cup star in the field for the Sanderson Farms Championship on the PGA Tour.

Those European superstars will attract plenty of betting attention but our golf expert Joe Champion is looking elsewhere for his each-way double, which pays out at 378/1.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship winner prediction – Ryan Fox at 14/1

The presence of the three Ryder Cup stars adds further sparkle to the already popular Dunhill Links Championship and, in the case of Fleetwood and Fitzpatrick, it’s no surprise to see them at the head of the outright betting market.

Fatigue could come into play for the English pair but Fleetwood and fellow Ryder Cup man Tyrrell Hatton shared second in this event after competing in Paris five years ago, and they were joined by Shane Lowry in the top seven a few days after jetting back from Wisconsin in 2021.

The best have the ability to reset and go again but, even so, defending champion Ryan Fox looks a better option.

Fox missed the cut in France when last seen but that came a week after he won the BMW PGA Championship, fending off the challenge of a host of European superstars, and the big-hitting Kiwi should be ready to go again after taking a week off.

The Dunhill Links takes place on three courses – legendary Open venues the Old Course at St Andrews and Carnoustie as well as the modern Kingsbarns – and that suits Fox, who has long been a confirmed links lover.

His tournament record had been surprisingly poor but he put that to bed with a victory last season, and he looks capable of mounting a successful title defence.

Sanderson Farms Championship winner prediction – Eric Cole at 20/1

In the absence of any members of the world’s top 50, Aberg tops the betting for the Sanderson Farms and it’s only a matter of time before the Swede makes his PGA Tour breakthrough.

While that could come this week, a trip from Rome to Mississippi’s Country Club of Jackson isn’t ideal for a player who is making his tournament debut, and there are others who make greater appeal further down the betting market.

All types of player have won at Jackson but a hot putter is usually essential and that points in the direction of Eric Cole, who ranked 12th on the PGA Tour in strokes-gained putting last season and second among those in the field this week.

Cole finished fourth behind Sahith Theegala at the Fortinet Championship on his last PGA Tour appearance and while his only previous Sanderson Farms start resulted in a missed cut, he fired a second-round 68 and returns ranked 365 places higher in the world rankings.
