MLS Weekend Best Bets

San Jose Earthquakes vs Portland Timbers

Last year it was a season to forget for San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS Western Conference as they finished rock bottom of their division but in 2023 the team has enjoyed a sharp upturn in results.

Heading into this weekend’s tussle with Portland, the Earthquakes find themselves in uncharted territory in the Western Conference playoff positions, having won two of their last three matches.

Those wins came against capable Seattle and Philadelphia sides too and it is fair to say the team has undergone a transformation under head coach Luchi Gonzalez, who reached the playoffs twice in three seasons with former club Dallas.

Last month San Jose talent Cristian Espinoza became the club’s first player to win the MLS Player of the Month award since Eduardo Lopez in September 2021 and it is an exciting time to be an Earthquakes fan.

They look a value bet to pick up another win at PayPal Park against the Timbers, who have been a picture of inconsistency recently with their last six games producing two wins, two draws and two defeats.

Best bet: San Jose Earthquakes to win

Sporting Kansas City vs LAFC

Los Angeles FC won the MLS Cup last year but have not looked as devastating this year and they go into the weekend winless in their last six matches in all competitions.

They are worth taking on against a resurgent Sporting Kansas City, who have won three of their last four matches with all of those wins coming at Children’s Mercy Park, where they are worth selecting in the draw-no-bet market.

Best bet: Sporting Kansas City draw no bet

New England Revolution vs Orlando City

New England Revolution are on course for the playoffs in this season’s Eastern Conference, having lost just three league fixtures in 2023, and they are fresh from a comfortable 3-1 win over Inter Miami.

But while Revolution head into the weekend unbeaten in their last four matches, they should be wary of their next opponents Orlando City, who can boast the best away record in the entirety of MLS.

It could therefore be tough to pick a winner in the clash at the Gillette Stadium but goals look likely.

New England have scored three goals in three of their last four matches and are among the leading scorers in their division with 28 strikes in 17 matches.

As for Orlando, they have netted in each of their last six games and over 2.5 goals could be the best bet when these two highflyers lock horns.

Best bet: Over 2.5 goals
