Experts' Best Bets: 187/1 Accumulator for New Year's Day!

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.

With 2024 kicking off with a massive day of EFL action and a Premier League showdown between Liverpool and Newcastle, it’s a bumper one for football fans. We’ve called in some backup to get the New Year up and running, with a special edition of our Experts’ Best Bets.

Crewe vs Bradford – Bradford to win and both teams to score at 10/3 with bet365

Crewe have been among the goals of late, but the hosts head into this one with no wins and four defeats across their last seven games. When you consider that their last three at home have finished 2-4, 3-3 and 1-3, they look vulnerable in this meeting with Bradford.

The visitors have won three straight away games but they’ve had their own issues at the back, which could lead to them struggling to keep a clean sheet in this encounter. The visitors’ fine form should see them triumph and start the year on a strong note, but combining that with BTTS makes for great value.

Bristol City vs Millwall – Bristol City to win at 21/20 with bet365

Bristol City are just three points outside the play-off spots after a fantastic run of form during the hectic festive period and they can start 2024 with a bang against poor travellers Millwall.

The visitors have taken just one point from their last four Championship away games and lost 1-0 in the reverse fixture at The Den in August. They could find it tough as they visit Ashton Gate on Monday, where the Robins have won four of their last five league assignments.

Jamie Griffith

Norwich vs Southampton – Southampton to win at 23/20 with bet365

Things have clicked for Russell Martin at Southampton following a rocky start to the campaign and his side have put together an almighty 17-match unbeaten run to now sit just three points behind second-placed Ipswich in the Championship.

Saints should be too strong for Norwich on New Year’s Day, with their hosts having lost their last two matches, one against relegation candidates Millwall, to nil.

Southampton have won four of their last six meetings with the Canaries and have improved markedly since their 4-4 draw in the reverse fixture, suggesting an away win is the likeliest outcome in this clash.

Derby vs Peterborough – Derby at 11/10 with bet365

Derby and Peterborough are level on points in League One but one side is in better form than the other ahead of their meeting at Pride Park.

Following their determined comeback win away to Oxford on Friday, Derby have won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions, putting them on the brink of the automatic promotion places in the the third tier.

As for visitors Peterborough, draws have held them back this season – they have played a part in seven league stalemates – and they have failed to win their last two games against Reading and Barnsley.

Aaron Ashley

Reading vs Exeter – Reading at 4/5 with bet365

Relegation-threatened Reading are beginning to find some form as they target League One survival and the Royals can claim three more precious points at home to Exeter.

Ruben Selles’s men have lost only one of their last eight league games and they have become extremely efficient at home, where they were convincing 2-0 winners against Wigan most recently.

Reading’s upturn in form has featured a 2-2 draw away at promotion-chasing Peterborough and 5-1 rout of Carlisle and they can see off Exeter, who have taken only one point from their last seven away matches.

Joe Casey

Liverpool v Newcastle – Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 13/8 with bet365

Liverpool’s impressive form at Anfield and Newcastle’s injury concerns mean it is not hard to see the case for the home side in this matchup.

The Reds are unbeaten in their last 21 home games in the league and have won 16 of those.

They face a Newcastle side that come into this on the back of a 3-1 humbling against Nottingham Forest last time out and look vulnerable once more.

However four of the last six Premier League meetings between these sides have seen both teams score and the Magpies have enough attacking talent to get on the scoresheet in defeat.
