The beginning of the EFL League Two season is just a couple of weeks away, and our tipsters have been casting their expert eyes over the various outright markets on offer.

Below, seven analysts give their best bet for the 2025/26 League Two season, with Chesterfield getting plenty of attention towards the top of the table.

Joe Casey

Best bet – Chesterfield to be promoted at 6/4

Chesterfield impressed in their first campaign back in League Two last season following promotion from the National League, and they can use that experience to kick on and secure promotion to League One this time around.

The Spireites were beaten by Walsall in the play-offs but have made some interesting additions to their squad, including Lee Bonis, who netted 11 goals in the Dutch second tier last season, and goalkeeper Zach Hemmings who has plenty of experience in the Scottish Premiership under his belt.

Rob Eddy

Best bet – Chesterfield to win League Two at 15/2

Chesterfield finished strongly to make the play-offs last season and look primed for a sustained title challenge this time around.

Paul Cook’s experienced and settled squad had no problems on the goalscoring front last season but they have made some shrewd acquisitions to take the next step. Northern Ireland international Lee Bonis has been brought in from ADO Den Haag while previous loanee Dilan Markanday has been signed permanently to add further depth to their attacking options.

Ryan Stirk adds more steel to the midfield while Kyle McFadzean and John Fleck have crucially both penned new deals, and the Spireites look capable of challenging strong favourites MK Dons for the title.

Jamie Griffith

Best bet – Barnet to finish in the top 7 at 9/4

Barnet to finish in the top seven. The gap in quality between League Two and the National League is shrinking year on year and in each of the past three seasons a promoted side has finished in the top seven of the fourth tier.

That trend should continue this time around with Barnet offering great value to make at least the playoffs after an utterly dominant title-winning campaign in which they scored 97 goals and racked up 102 points.

The Bees have added proven EFL players like Oli Hawins, Emmanuel Osadebe and Romoney Crichlow to an already exciting squad and momentum can carry them to a top-seven finish.

Tom Hill

Best bet – MK Dons to finish in the top 3 at 11/10

MK Dons failed to live up to the hype last season, but they should come back firing under Paul Warne. Warne has built up a reputation of being a promotion specialist from the lower leagues, and he did not lose any of his four games in charge towards the end of last season.

The Dons are odds against to finish in the top three in places and the addition of Aaron Collins, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy should help them in the final third. Four of MK Dons’ seven summer signings have come from the third tier and that extra class and Warne’s guidance should help them pursue promotion.

James Mason

Best bet – Barrow to finish in the top 7 at 10/3

Barrow look like they have the quality to finish in the top seven. Manager Andy Whing got a tune out of his side after being appointed in January, ending last season on a seven-game unbeaten run, and a full summer working with his squad will only help matters.

Midfielder Rekeem Harper is a notable addition and Michael Adu-Poku will provide extra pace and quality in the final third after arriving on loan from Watford. Those two are part of an already busy transfer market for the Bluebirds and there is plenty of confidence heading into the new campaign.

Aaron Rogan

Best bet – Chesterfield to win League Two at 15/2

Chesterfield finished their first season back in the EFL with a flourish, and they can kick on in 2025/26. The Spireites claimed 28 points across their final 13 matches to snatch a playoff spot, and they’ve made some impressive moves ahead of the new campaign.

Chesterfield’s 73 goals last term were only topped by Walsall, but Paul Cook’s side have added Northern Ireland forward Lee Bonis. The striker scored 11 times in the Eredivisie last term, adding firepower alongside countryman Will Grigg.

Signing goalkeeper Zach Hemming and poaching holding midfielder Ryan Stirk from Walsall should help tighten up their defence, so the Spireites are my tip for the title at 15/2.

Alex Wrigley

Best bet – Newport County to be relegated at 5/2

Newport County are favourites to be relegated, but they still look good value after another miserable campaign.

They ended the season with League Two’s worst defensive record and lost ten of their final 15 matches. The Ironsides have done little of interest in the transfer market, and a continuation of their decline looks likely.

They have finished 15th, 18th, and 22nd in their last three seasons, and new manager David Hughes will have his work cut out to reverse this downward trend in his first senior management role.
