The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play returns to Austin Country Club in Texas this week, where two-time winner Jason Day will attempt to overcome his tricky draw and join Tiger Woods as a three-time tournament champion.

Day faces an uphill struggle in the Lone Star State however, and below we’ve picked out some of the players that could be worth backing to win at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play instead.

WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play winner prediction: Justin Thomas at 11/1

Justin Thomas won the Players Championship in fine style and rates the best bet at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in the hope that he repeats the authoritative ball-striking performance that he produced at Pete Dye-designed Sawgrass two weeks ago.

Thomas, a WGC-Match Play semi-finalist in 2018, has a habit of retaining his form when he finds top gear and his record in both the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup is excellent – he top scored for the US at Le Golf National in 2018 and did likewise at Royal Melbourne a year later.

Thomas’s all-round game is superb and there are few golfers who can match his win rate over the last few years, his Sawgrass success taking him to 16 career titles including two WGC victories.

He’s drawn alongside Kevin Kisner, Louis Oosthuizen and Matt Kuchar and, while that looks a tough task on paper, Thomas is by some way the best player in that quartet when at the very top of his game and should have nothing to fear.

WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play outsider prediction: Sungjae Im each-way at 30/1

Sungjae Im looks to have the talent to become a Match Play champion and the Korean, who makes stacks of birdies and possesses heaps of long-game class, should also be backed to go well again on his beloved bermuda grass greens.

Im, eighth at the Honda Classic when defending his title last week, is grouped alongside Victor Perez, Marc Leishman and Russell Henley and, while all three are dangers, they might not be able to live with Im, who joint-top scored for the Internationals at the 2019 Presidents Cup and blew away Gary Woodland in Sunday singles.
