Accrington Stanley vs Fleetwood Town Predictions

  • At least four goals have been scored in four of the last five Accrington home league games.
  • At least four goals have been scored in five of the last six Fleetwood away league games.
  • Accrington won 4-1 when these two sides met in the EFL Trophy last month.

Old habits die hard for flimsy Fleetwood

Simon Grayson may have gone, but Fleetwood Town are still leaking goals and should do so again in what could be a high-scoring League One contest with Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

Only four clubs in the division have fished more balls out from their own net than the Cod Army this season with Fleetwood far-too-often becoming embroiled in defensive disaster-classes under Grayson.

And it looks like it could take caretaker-boss Stephen Crainey some time to change their habits if last weekend’s 2-2 draw at AFC Wimbledon is anything to go by. An average of 4.5 goals per game have been scored in Fleetwood’s last six road trips and so it seems likely that there will be a few at Wham Stadium this weekend.

Defensive deficiencies abound in Accrington

Accrington are actually one of the few teams to have shipped more goals than Fleetwood this term with only Morecambe having conceded more. John Coleman’s side have only kept one clean sheet at home this season and that was way back in August, since when they have conceded at a rate of 2.33 per game.

They did manage to prevent a lacklustre Lincoln side from scoring for a third game on the trot last weekend, but we feel that was more to do with the opposition. So it looks worth the risk to back over 3.5 goals this weekend at a price of around 2/1.

Stanley ran out 4-1 winners in the EFL Trophy when these two sides met recently, so a similar scoreline could be on the cards. We’re taking 3-1 in correct score betting as the preference because Accrington are yet to score more than three at home in the league and neither have Fleetwood shipped more than that, although they have conceded three twice.
