Charlotte FC to Win

Reason for tip

Atlanta United have lost their last four home games while Charlotte have lost only one of their last six MLS matches, winning three. The Crown have kept five clean sheets in their last six games and will be tough to score past if they keep their defensive form.

Charlotte FC 1-0

Reason for tip

A 1-0 away win could be on the cards if Charlotte can maintain their recent record of keeping clean sheets. Atlanta recently lost 1-0 at home to Los Angles, one of four straight home games where they have gone down by a one-goal margin.

Can Five Stripes back up Miami upset?

Charlotte can upset the team that upset Inter Miami when they head to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to take on Atlanta United on Sunday.

The odds for this match would have changed a touch after each team’s midweek result, particularly Atlanta’s – which was a 3-1 win over the Eastern Conference-leading Herons at Chase Stadium.

Inter Miami had all their big guns out for the game with Lionel Messi scoring his side’s goal, although he was outshone by fellow Argentine playmaker Thiago Almada and Five Stripes striker Saba Lobzhanidze.

The Crown can keep Atlanta anchored

Atlanta fans will hope for another superb performance from their 12th-placed side against seventh-placed Charlotte, but a run of four straight defeats on their artificial turf suggests it is not a given.

Some good teams have won at Mercedes-Benz Stadium lately, including Western Conference contenders Minnesota and Los Angeles plus a Cincinnati side that trails only Inter Miami in the East. But DC United, a team that is three places and four points worse off than Charlotte, also took all three points thanks to a Christian Benteke hat-trick.

The Crown don’t have a striker of that calibre in their ranks, but one goal might be enough to claim three points here because they have a defence that has been regularly keeping clean sheets – five in the last six games.
